We tried painting with Kool-Aid and loved it! Easy, cheap, and fun!
I made each boy his own set of 3 colors. Just pour about half of the Kool-Aid powder into a little ramekin and add a small amount of water, then stir. Add a little water at a time so it doesn't water down the color too much.
Tips from the trenches:
~ the purple looked black while TJ painted, but ended up a dark purple color after it dried
~ don't dilute the yellow powder much at all, or it is hard to see the color
~ you can of course mix colors to make new colors {TJ really wanted orange for his peach fruit, but I didn't have orange Kool-Aid, so I mixed our leftover red and yellow}
I drew this beautiful picture :) in Sharpie on white easel paper, and put a placemat underneath to protect the table. We were starting a unit on the Fruit of the Spirit, so this was a perfect tie in since the Kool-Aid "paints" smelled wonderful!
Enjoy painting with these just like you would with watercolors.
